Brain Attack Coalition

Brain Coaltion

The Brain Attack Coalition (BAC) is a group of professional, voluntary and governmental entities dedicated to reducing the occurrence, disabilities and death associated with stroke. It is staffed and chaired by NINDS. The goal of the Coalition is to strengthen and promote the relationships among its member organizations in order to help stroke patients or those who are at risk for a stroke.

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) offers a variety of educational materials designed for health care professionals involved in treatment of acute stroke. The materials can be ordered in single copies or in quantity, and can be used in medical schools, educational settings, hospitals, clinics, and other health care facilities. The community education kit is a tool for increasing public awareness about stroke. In May 2002, the NINDS invited an independent committee to review and consider the data from the 5-year, multi-site study of "Tissue Plasminogen Activator for Acute Ischemic Stroke," published by the NINDS r-TPA Stroke Study Group in the New England Journal of Medicine, December 14, 1995.

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and the Office of Rare Disorders sponsored an international workshop on perinatal and childhood stroke in Bethesda, MD. on September 18 and 19th, 2000. A report summarizing this conference appeared in the January 2002 issue of Pediatrics.
